In this article we will be sharing the top reasons why live cosmetic models are far superior in terms of effective training in preparation for treating your own paying clients.
The Stakes are Higher
All cosmetic injectable procedures come with risk, and therefore it’s imperative that the treatments are treated this way from the very beginning. Treating a live cosmetic model with a life and emotions will add some very important and useful pressure to the procedure.
On a mannequin, there are no repercussions if you inject in the wrong place with the wrong technique and wrong quantity. The treatment can be immediately reversed with no human reaction from the model, lessening the importance of doing a good job from the start.
By using a real life model, we find that delegates treat the training far more seriously, and thus are far more likely to complete the training to the absolute best of their ability because they understand that although they are learning, the treatment is very much real and lasting for the person on the couch.
Real Life Models Move
Real life humans move. As obvious as this may seem, it’s an important part of learning that you will not get with a mannequin.
People flinch when you approach them with a needle in anticipation of discomfort and may squirm a little during the more sensitive areas that they are having treated. Your job as a cosmetic injector is to work with the client to make the treatment as comfortable as possible, whilst maintaining the direction, depth, and quantity of product used with a steady hand when working on a person with natural reactions of varying degrees.
Their Skin and Anatomy Changes
Mannequins will all be made from a synthetic material that mimics the texture and thickness of real skin but will never be a perfect match. Not only that, the anatomy of everyone is as unique as their fingerprints, so simply working on the one mannequin with the same anatomical spacing will not equip you with the knowledge needed to translate your skills to different clients.
The quality of the client’s skin will also vary from person to person, which will affect their suitability for treatment and the manner in which you treat them. On our courses we will teach the differences and how to work with different types that would be entirely theoretical using a mannequin.
Learn to Conduct an Effective Consultation
An important part of your training will be learning how to conduct a consultation before you inject. This would be very difficult to do with a mute mannequin. A real-life human model will be able to communicate exactly what it is they are looking to change and share any relevant background information that might affect their treatment in any way.
It will also help you develop your bedside manner for those with different levels of anxiousness so that you can learn the most effective ways to calm their nerves and make for a positive overall experience.
Post Treatment Reaction and Aftercare Questions
One of the most satisfying parts of the job is to see your patient’s reaction when they first see their results in the mirror, that you simply would not get with a mannequin; it’ll reinforce the reason why you decided to train in the first place, and will make you want to see that reaction again and again with each person who walks through your clinic doors.
After their treatment a live model may also have questions about how to look after their treatment which will further enhance your knowledge and experience in looking after patients with different needs and lifestyles.
